out-of-print since 1994, this early release from the large music camp (on sub label swing street) has reached cult classic status and forced many a collector to seek out the few remaining rare copies available. much has been said recently about the production team of black ice, this release showcases the reasons why they are so highly praised and have been re-discovered as major influences in the chicago house sound. five tracks here that all feature raw and textured rhythms mixed perfectly with splashes of melody and soul.

kensuke fukushima is an up and coming talent from japan. growing up heavily influenced by rock and jazz, he learned to play multiple instruments like lead and bass guitar as well as piano. he s had a few previous releases on labels such as onovu & leap records and was featured on a recent v/a ep on roundabout sounds entitled, fly pattern ep. label boss joe babylon reached out to detoit house legend d wynn to remix the title track. for those that don t already know, d wynn was the resident dj at the histroic music institute as well as tour dj for inner city. he s also one half of r-tyme with derrick may.

the second offering from brooklyn-based let s play house offshoot, room service, is, like the first one, a four-track solo ep by one of the most exciting house music talent s around. records features four originals by spanish producer kresy, who s already released a few 12inchs on the esteemed hivern discs as well as retrofit, freerange, and his own discomaths. the songs included here vacillate between hands-in-the-air feel good disco and jittery, shuffling house, though they re all unified by an inherent grooviness and bright tonality.

theres a lot of techno out there but none of it sounds like stanislav tolkachev. in the past few years the prolific ukrainian producer has molded his love for old school techno with enormous doses of experimentation and tension.

uk techno stalwart steve bicknells lost recordings series must be one of the longest running in dance music, the lost and cosmic founder has been putting out previous unheard material from his early 90s heyday on and off since 2004. there are few surprises on this 10th edition, but plenty of slamming, no-holds-barred grooves. the hissing, spacey, cymbal-heavy track 3 is particularly trippy, while theres a gnarled, ragged intensity about the pulsating heaviness of track 1. arguably best of all, though - ambient interlude track 2 aside - is track 4, an eerie techno shuffler built around a wonky, off-key electric piano loop and fizzing percussion.

vermillion lands with an inter-stellar remix package. french techno connoisseur agoria leads us on a minimal, spaced out trip through shining synths and swift vocal echoes. acclaimed house maverick and hot creations head honcho jamie jones has been closing his dj sets for the last few weeks with his own remix. its bouncing, old school house tip bounding beneath bright gospel turns of phrase, approaching near classic status with arms aloft receptions on the dancefloor. and finally berlin’s deniz kurtel, who pulls her penchant for polyrhythmic percussion to the fore, casting sweet tribal grooves across an original surely destined to become a dancefloor anthem this summer.

roberto rodriguez is a helsinki-based dj, producer, radio host and music director. having started making music at the age of 12 in 1987 and starting to dj a few years later, roberto can be called a true veteran. he has released over 50 original releases and 60 remixes including - now-classics like *ride with me*, *besomebody* and *oxymoron*. his vast catalog includes releases on labels such as compost, freerange, delusions of grandeur, room with a view, fina and eskimo. just to name a few.

nebraska is someone who’s tracks we’ve been loving for a good few years now and finally managed to pin him down for a release here on delusions of grandeur. the uk producer is something of an enigma, and despite some amazing releases on rush hour still remains resolutely underground and seems to keep his releases to a minimum, focusing on keeping the quality high rather than flooding the market with average material. once again, he brings the real deal with three drum-heavy warehouse jams to nice-up the dancefloor. aw-right (mute version) sets the tone with a raw house groove that keeps things stripped to the bare minimum. a bouncing bassline and rattling percussion break help to define the track but it’s the dusty, dubby approach to the mix which really makes the track shine. next up we have warp and weft, a similar sounding track but by dropping the bpm’s nebraska has created a sublime low-slung, bumpy groove to really move to. flipping over we’re treated to the brilliant eighty eights which will have you nodding your head like the churchill’s dog before you can say ‘looped up piano and bass one bar groove repeated for over eight and a half minutes shouldn’t work should it?’

taking a few steps off it’s usual housy path, metereze presents a fresh new face and a more techno approach to dance music. it is melodie that signs the 4th installment and he is taking it deep into the realms of acid with 3 tracks that not only go well together but they are all meant to make you move in a big way.
acid sunday is as acidic as the name suggests it but in the end it’s the most poetic of the 3. the subtle pads are kinda dreamy but the 303 sounds make it super driving. on the same side we have rhythmico which is dark, percussive and powerful. subtle background bleeps complete the wandering synth that comes and goes but never really seems to go away.
housed on side b justa is a techno monster in its own right. sonically very close to the other two, this is by far the darkest track on this ep. and probably the strongest. techno infused house you may call it or whatever, this is the kind of track that puts you on a serious move whenever, wherever.

this is a tape! all good stories need a context. named after the multitalented artist who used to operate at the bauhaus in dessau, »marianne brandt« is the omnidirectional long length debut of alex ketzer, the respected designer behind noorden’s artworks as well as a talented musician on the rise. ketzer recorded in a room at the dessau structure for a few days, meticulously crafting a piece that sounds like a conversation between history and future, audio and visual, bridging the gap over a century of creation in one of the epicentres of the highest form of artistic production in europe. and now inviting electronic music to its table.

when it comes to electronic music and techno music there are few cities that have conserved and upheld the foundational roots laid down by its pioneers more so than berlin. one of the center-most characters in this movement is the inimitable der dritte raum. aydszieyalaidnem is the latest offering from kruegers der dritte raum project.

meet renart, genius, young and mysterious french techno producers, largely noticed over the last few years for his carefully crafted releases on french labels such as cracki records, dawn records and the acid arab compilation. for his 4th ep, renart produced four house tinted techno tracks for the launch of the hong kong based house + techno label fragrant harbour.

the first installment in a double issue of brand new cleric productions drops with figure 64. the young british producer has released a handful of 12s over the last few years, issuing forth a bold, club targeted sound with a keen ear for clarity and full-spectrum sonics. now we are treated to a wide ranging and impressive new wave of work, over 8 tracks on 2x12s, from cleric on figure. taking us head first into the action, >avoid the subject< presents a crazy dystopia of arpeggiated synth bleeps, dancing and filtering around a heavy trademark cleric drum barrage. at once recognisable, part-insane and part-paranoid funk, its a strong statement to start the ep.

plan b recordings continues its underground sounds compilation series. the a side represents label bosses dj spider and dakini9. dj spider is his usual twisted self on *hive mind* and dakini9s house- techno hybrid *lost* reveals a few layers of meaning for the careful listener. the b side welcomes berlins franklin de costa with a deep moody burner named *retreat* and fifth wall records co-boss divvorce turns in a stomper with *e./b.* to close out the compilation.

ibiza based artist pepe mateos is a relatively new name to most but has been bubbling away on his home turf, clubbing mecca the white isle for quite some time, releasing since 2011 and running his own flow musique imprint mateos delivers raw and gritty compositions in the realms of house and techno. thought pepe retains a relatively under the radar status, hes managed to garner the attention of nicole moudaber, marco carola and cajmere to name but a few. here we see him launch the hide + seek imprint with more of his infectious groove-led style.

since its conception three years ago, the hamburg based label hafendisko has been patiently building its reputation with a diverse and varied artist roster. alongside releases from emerging talent such as deo & z-man and brynjolfor, it forms parent label hfn musics outlet for club oriented music whether with full releases or remixes for artists such as kasper bjørke and faded ranger and just recently welcomed renowned remixers such as michael mayer, charles webster and luke solomon, to name a few.

jeroens commemorating his roots by re-releasing a selection of search records from days gone by. each has been remastered in such a way that it retains its authentic and timeless energy. pressed onto fresh vinyl, this limited series contains some of the finest search tracks ever to be put out, handpicked by jeroen himself. in light of that it might be easily forgotten that jeroen search has been creating techno since the early nineties. and that he ran one of the most influential labels around back then: >search<. between 1996 and 2001 it was home to a host of releases, many from jeroen himself. released on vinyl and without any reprints, they ve since hidden in the record collections of a select few.

so the story goes: a few years ago i played a cool underground party in stockholm with my good friend and crazy record collector mark seven. early on that night mark played me this beautiful and melancholic piece of music. mark happily handed me his spare copy and my record collection for a second felt a little more complete… originally released as a b-side track to als slipshod ep on out of the loop the track continued to mesmerize whenever i played it and the fact that so many people loved it and equally as many didn’t know the record i though a re-release could be a great idea. it’s inclusion on gerd janson’s recent sonar kollektiv compilation and the fact that it’s been played by legendary dj harvey ( o bearded one as he’s known to by the initiated)has obviously helped to spread it’s fame to. now hopefully showing it’s full potential we bring you the remastered “lullaby for robert” with a whole bunch of remixes made with love by remixers spellbounded by it’s magic. on part 1 we bring you : the original + bogdan irkük remix part 2 will include reworks by mark seven, gatto fritto and yours truly toot toot beep beep,
